Harpers & Queen

January, 2004. Harpers & Queen. Style Queen: Order,Order.

Julia Dee helps Catherine Prevost and Sara Buys edit their wardrobes:

Top Tips:

  1. Use clothes covers with lavender bags or acid free boxes.
  2. Use space saving plastic hangers.
  3. Only store clean clothes and keep moths at bay with cedarwood.
  4. Keep smells (ie shoes etc) fresh with vanilla pods.
  5. Maximise storage space with wicker labelled baskets.
  6. Clear plastic stackable boxes for shoes.
  7. Store clothes by type and use labels.
  8. Be ruthless - we only wear 20% of what we own.

Keep:

  • Anything with character.
  • Anything beautifully crafted.
  • Accessories.
  • Costume jewellery.

Chuck:

  • Anything overtly trendy.
  • Anything cheap.
  • Anything you haven’t worn for two years.
  • Anything that has been altered already and needs to be altered again.
  • Worn out shoes and boots.

March, 2004. Harpers & Queen. Style Shopping. Style solutions: Cropped trousers. "Sarah Buys on how to make this season’s essential trouser length work for you”. Page 84.

“FASHION FIX. If you own a pair of cigarette-style trousers that you don’t get much use out of, have them taken up to make your own DIY pair of cropped pants. That way you can have control over the length; work out which part of your leg they should fall at to flatter you best. We recommend Designer Alterations (020 7498 4360) and tailor Paul Strotton (07968 985 775).”

September, 2004. Harpers & Queen. Style Shopping. Catwalk to closet. "Kim Hersov takes a walk on the wild side”. Page 88.

“FASHION FIX. Don’t be put off buying a vintage coat just because its lining is damaged. It’s fairly straightforward to repair or replace the lining on an old find. Julia Dee at Designer Alterations (020 7498 4360) specialises in tricky, delicate cases.”
