Hangers
Still using wire hangers? Make the leap to luxury lounging for your clothes!
Hang clothes according to type as they are easier to see. Basically, the order should be something like this:
- Trousers altogether
- Skirts altogether
- Jackets altogether
- Dresses altogether
- Blouses altogether
Wire hangers are really no good and should be sent back to the dry cleaner or charity
Good hangers are expensive but go to your local boutique and find out when they next have a delivery as they normally throw the old ones out..
You'll need:
- Jacket hangers, which are nice and fat and support the shoulders.
- Peg hangers for trousers and skirts, if a skirt is held by it's hanging loops it dips in the middle and gets creased in the wardrobe.
- Trousers can be hung by their feet with peg hangers or ideally over a bar hanger covered in sponge.
- Blouses, dress and tops can go on slim plastic hangers preferably with a rubber piece to stop slipping and nice round edges to keep the shoulders in shape.
- Knitwear is best on non-slip rubber hangers with rounded ends. Padded hangers are lovely but expensive and bulky!
Shoes/footwear
- A good pair of wooden shoe trees is a must. After that an assortment of padded and plastic ones are fine. After a day of wearing your shoes - put the wooden shoe trees in them for the whole of the next day, then repeat the process with plastic shoe trees.
- Try not to wear your shoes two days running - this will give the shoes a chance to breathe, dry out and go back into shape.
They could also be stuffed with tissue or newspaper, which is also slightly absorbent.
Store shoes either in shoe boxes or a shoe rack, the new calico hanging bags that have little compartments, or a bookcase with a curtain over the edge of it to keep the dust out.
